Nick Burke
"The Person"

Originally from Baltimore, MD, began my musical career at age 8 with piano lessons and singing with my Dad in the church choir. I learned to play several other instruments in my teens and participated in my HS dance band and several "rock bands". After 5 semesters and too much partying at UMD, enlisted in the USAF (9/65) and was educated to work in Electronic Counter-Measures until my discharge (9/69). I wound up working full time with computers for the next 40 years at Goddard Space Flight Center/NASA. I also worked as a part-time, weekend musician during that tenure. I retired in January 2008 and moved to Ocala, FL in June 2013 ... I'm still here!

"The Musician"

During my weekend musician career, I played bass guitar and sang in a local, top-40 dance band named "The Sentries." They became one of Maryland's premier show bands, working every Friday and Saturday, 50 weekends per year. The group was so good they performed on several TV shows and served as back-up musicians to many well known artists like The Platters, The Drifters, Percy Sledge, Danny & the Juniors, Chubby Checker, The Ronettes and Mary Wells. It was during this time that I developed my skills as an MC with a great sense of reading an audience to keep them dancing.

"Musical Host & DJ"

After nearly 20 years as a musician, combined with an electronics background, becoming a DJ seemed like a natural transition. I started my DJ business in May 1987 under the name of "Sound Decision DJs." We performed for social clubs, athletic organizations, high school proms and dances, Knights of Columbus, VFW, Elks and Moose halls and nearly every fire hall in the state of MD. I expanded the business to include Karaoke, MTV style Music Videos, very sophisticated intelligent lighting and atmospheric effects. With all the new additions, we were now much more than just DJs, so we became "Nicky-B Entertainment."
